2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Choctaw County completed the 2015 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Choctaw County finished sixth in Class 2A region one with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2003 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 1999 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Choctaw County was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Tigers want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.4 points a game. The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, the Choctaw County football program has struggled with a record of 15-45. Over the past 25 seasons, Choctaw County has managed to compile a record of 93-162. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 2A and 315th in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2001. The Tigers are led by head coach Charles Chaney who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 4-16 over the past two seasons at Choctaw County. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Chaney. Coach Chaney's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 6-24 (20.0%). The Choctaw County Tigers will play in Class 2A region one during the 2016 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Tigers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. The Tigers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Marengo on Friday, August 26 at Panther Stadium. Last year the Marengo Panthers finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in third place in Class 1A region one. The Panthers lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Maplesville by a score of 50-6. Choctaw County and Marengo have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 2-5-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2015 with Choctaw County winning by a score of 36-30. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
